Who really can go to Heaven?

II Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Can anyone know for sure?

I John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Can someone be too bad to be saved?

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

How can I be saved?

FIRST ADMIT THAT YOU ARE A SINNER:

We are all sinners and therefore we are unable to save ourselves.

Jesus Christ is the only one who has done everything right and is sinless. We have all sinned and therefore cannot bring ourselves to Heaven

Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

Because of our sin we have come short of God’s glory and Heaven.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

THERE MUST BE A PENALTY FOR OUR SIN:

Sin’s punishment came as the result of man’s sin.

Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Just like we earn wages for work performed at our jobs; our wages for our sin is eternal death.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Sin’s punishment is severe and not limited to only certain sins. How many murders would one have to commit to be a murderer? The answer is one! So, how many lies would a person have to tell to be a liar? Again, the answer is one! As we see in the following verse, even liars deserve hell!

Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

BUT THE LOVE OF GOD AND CHRIST HIS SON PAID THE PENALTY FOR US:

We have NO strength or ability to save ourselves. Christ stepped in and paid our sin debt knowing full well that we are all sinners!

Romans 5:6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

So, is salvation a gift to be received or a reward to be earned?

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

As we see from the above verse, it is a gift paid for by Jesus Christ.

I Corinthians 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Heaven is a gift to be received, and NOT a reward to be earned!

WE MUST RECEIVE CHRIST AS OUR SAVIOR:

Call on the Lord Jesus Christ to save you.

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Confess your sinful state and call on Christ to save you!

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

What if I sin again?

Salvation is everlasting!

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Jesus said “…but have everlasting life.” Once we call on Christ to save us, He gives us everlasting life. If we could lose our salvation, it would NOT be everlasting life!

He gives eternal life to us and is the only one who could take it.

John 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and my Father are one

Christ says we shall NEVER perish! Who is able to remove us from God and Christ’s hands? Nobody!

The One who promised is the one who keeps the promise.

Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

He says He is with us wherever we go.

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

We are sealed by the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption!

Ephesians 1:12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

What is next?

The first step is to follow Christ in Baptism. Baptism has nothing to do with whether or not you are saved, but it is the first step of obedience after salvation. Just like a wedding ring tells everyone that I am married; baptism tells everyone I have accepted Christ as Savior. If I take my ring off I am still married, if I never get baptized I am still saved!

How can I get baptized?

Please contact Pastor Nick Dignan at (409) 962-8463 at ext. 100 and he will be glad to hear that you have accepted Christ as your Savior. He will then discuss it with you and schedule your baptism.
